Food & Water Watch Calls on Governor Brown to Shut Down Porter Ranch Natural Gas Facility

Food and Water Watch has issued a call for California Governor Jerry Brown to display some of the climate leadership he spoke so much of during the recent COP21 climate talks in Paris, and shut down the Porter Ranch natural gas storage facility.

The facility has been leaking methane since October 23 and by the end of January will have released 110,000 tons of the gas into the atmosphere.

Brown finally declared a state of emergency this week, after more than 2,500 families have been relocated and no end to the leak is in sight. Area residents, advocates and climate change activists have been calling on Brown to make the move for months.
