Help Ban Glyphosate in Petaluma

From Petaluma Grange President Tiffany Renee –

Alert! Monsanto is Killing Bees

This Wednesday, January 20th, the Music, Parks and Recreation Commission will be reviewing their Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program and seeking feedback on the use of pesticides like glyphosate (RoundUp). Glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen according to the World Health Organization. It’s time for Sonoma County and its cities to stop using it on our public lands and open spaces. Sonoma County and its cities (Petaluma, Cloverdale, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Windsor, Healdsburg, and Sonoma) should join a growing list of local governments, including Chicago IL, Takoma Park MD, Laguna Hills, CA, Richmond CA, Durham, CT and Paris, France, and ban glyphosates.

We need you to come show your support in Petaluma for the moratorium. Please come to the meeting to voice your support for an immediate 12-month moratorium on the use of pesticides on city properties. Staff is asking to have an IPM program with solid alternatives prior to implementing a 12-month moratorium. We feel it is crucial that a moratorium be implemented immediately as a matter of public health.

Sign the petition here and join us in person if you can.

We are asking the Music, Parks and Rec Commissioners to recommend the moratorium to City Council and begin work on the IPM program with staff simultaneously.
