A public service message from the Greenbelt Alliance:
Tell ABAG and MTC to Grow Smart!
Plan Bay Area, adopted in 2013, lays out a groundbreaking regional strategy for creating sustainable communities. Many of you helped shape the plan by participating in public workshops and emailing local decision-makers.
We need your voices again. Starting May 26, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) are hosting public workshops in all nine counties for an update to Plan Bay Area.
Greenbelt Alliance will be at every workshop and we urge you to join us!
ABAG and MTC have prepared three scenarios for how the Bay Area could grow—including one that breaks our urban growth boundaries for unfettered sprawl development. Now they’re seeking your input to craft a single “preferred scenario” to be the blueprint for the new Plan Bay Area. Read more about the scenarios here.
Attend a workshop and tell ABAG and MTC that you want the region to grow smart!
Please encourage the agencies to adopt a preferred scenario that does the following:
- Guides growth in ways that protect our region’s natural and agricultural lands from sprawl and make our communities even better places to live
- Includes strong policies and investments to tackle housing affordability and displacement
- Provides more opportunities for walking, biking, and transit
Planning to attend a workshop? Let us know you’re coming at mvandersluis@greenbelt.org.
Can’t make the meeting in person? You can also submit your comments online at planbayarea.org.
