From the Courage Campaign:
For nearly 100 years, farm workers have been treated as second-class citizens and denied fair overtime pay after eight hours of hard work.(1) And there’s a critical bill headed to the California State Senate floor — Assembly Bill 1066 (Gonzalez) — that would right this wrong and finally acknowledge the financial hardships that generations of farm workers have endured.
The agriculture industry and their lobbyists in Sacramento are organizing night and day to kill this bill. In California’s Third Senate District, your state senator needs to hear from constituents like you!
The American Dream has taught us that if you work hard and play by the rules, you’ll be able to earn enough to raise a family and save for retirement. Farm workers toil under the sun in up to triple-digit temperatures to harvest produce so that people like you and I are able to eat. They often work up to 60 hours a week.
But under current law, they get paid overtime only after TEN HOURS of work a day! This policy is racist and un-American, and only exists due to historic discrimination against predominantly Latino farm workers.
AB 1066, by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, is a COMMONSENSE bill that gives farm workers real overtime pay after a hard eight hours of work a day.(2) Fair pay and overtime compensation are core values of the Democratic Party.

I am calling Senator Wolk to ask her to vote YES on AB 1066 to support fair overtime pay for farm workers. I expect the Senator to support AB 1066 because it reflects a core value of the Democratic Party.”
